2 Hype Brothers and a Dog - "Doo Doo Brown"
If you came up, or were in Baltimore around the 90's this song "Doo Doo Brown" was a smash hit! I can recall so many memories. Frank Ski, who is also featured on this song, used to host V103 was Baltimore's hip-hop/house/club station back in the day. He also hosted The Morning Show on our local radio station 92Q with Ms.Tony (R.I.P.) This video is also early work from Chris Robinson! ( A Baltimore native, who has done videos for many of your favorite popular artists). Listen to this and Reminisce!

Mr. Hudson
One of the artists that I have been keeping a watch on is definitley Mr. Hudson. Mr. Hudson was recently signed to Kanye West's G.O.O.D music label. His writing is powerful, and his music is definitley inspiring. Most Hip-Hop fans are familiar with him due to his appearance on Jay-z's latest Blueprint 3. The track is called "Forever Young", and he sings "let us die young or let us live forever", which basically translates to the old saying "live every day like it's your last". This isn't his only song infused with thoughts of youth. In one of my favorite songs lately, "Time" he goes into depth on the thought of making the best of your time here, because it is limited. You can cop his album StraightNoChaser on his website.
This was just released on the net today ( it has a more upbeat fashion than the original:
Mr. Hudson x Kanye West “Anyone But Him” (Single Version)
This video really shows his creative process:

Inspiration in the City: TRUTH Outfitters
Often In Baltimore,or any inner city youth are interested in expressing themselves. If it's not through Basketball, or Rhyming, or in some cases even Academics, it's definitely Fashion! Baltimore has a sense of fashion. It might not be the most modern, or Euro-esque but it's creative and representative of our culture. In Highschool a lot of my friends decided to get their "Arts and Crafts" on, and create designs on sweatpants, and jeans, and t-shirts. Alex Banks, a designer and creative spirit alike has started to explore his craft, and create a more definite business out of it. I respect his craft and his hustle. TRUTH Outfitters is a self proclaimed apparel company featuring ideas, concepts and designs from the mind of a teenaged West Baltimorean. It reflects the mindframe of individuals who STRUGGLE in their everyday endeavors in order to better themselves in every way one could fathom...Here at ABLT we love that creativity! Keep it up!

Theophilus London - Humdrum Town
Theophilus London has had a steady underground buzz for a while now. He reminds me of Bloc Party and Kid-Cudi intertwined. Mainly I've heard very mellow dance grooves from this artist, but he's an emcee as well. Don't get it twisted. Comparisons aside, this kid is doing his own thing and his style is unique as well.
I first heard him on here :

Earthquake Crisis in Haiti.
Haiti is apparently in a desperate time of need. The January 12, 2010, Haiti earthquake was in the boundary region separating the Caribbean plate and the North America plate. According to the Richter Magnitude Scale, a earthquake of 7.0 size, is Major , and can cause serious damage over a very large area. This catastrophic Haiti earthquake only adds to the crisis in a nation where 80 percent of the population lives below the poverty line. The population of 9 million in Haiti already faces high rates of tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, viral and respiratory disease. They are also the most destitute country in the Western Hemisphere.
It looks as though the U.S. is going to be at the head of this mission since Haiti does not have the resources for such a task as rebuilding it self. It also looks as thought the U.S will be there for a while. President Obama addressed the issue today on January 13, 2009.
President Obama Quotes:
In a statement from the White House, Obama said the United States will help in any way possible. "I have directed my administration to respond with a swift, coordinated and aggressive effort to save lives," he said.
"The people of Haiti will have the full support of the United States in the urgent effort to rescue those trapped beneath the rubble and to deliver the humanitarian relief — the food, water and medicine — that Haitians will need in the coming days,"
When I heard of this Disaster with Haiti, the first person who came to my mind is Wyclef, and just as I thought, he was twittering, about calling for a "state of emergency" and U.S. citizens to help offer relief.
Tweets from Wyclef:I am on my way to the D R to get to haiti Please urge you council men governors etc we need a state of emergency for haiti.
Haiti needs your help text YELE to 501 501 and 5 dollars will go toward earthquake relief

My Life - Pharoahe Monch feat Styles P
[Chorus: Pharoahe]
My life is all I have
My rhymes, my pen, my pad
And I done made it through the struggle, don't judge me
What you say now, won't budge me
Cuz where I come from, so often
People you grew up with, layin in a coffin
But I done made it through the pain in spite
It's my time now, my world, my life
My life...
[Styles]
Is based on, lightin blunts, loadin guns
tellin my lawyers to get the case gone (uh-huh)
I need the bills that the presidents got they face on
so I can switch my residence - get a truck and a Lex
Fuck a check, I no longer have to wait for 'em
I made a couple ends, lost a couple friends
I light a blunt cuz never will the struggle end
So you can judge a nigga, but you ain't got it, you ain't in the role
so you really can't budge a nigga - you oughta love a nigga
For the fact that it's my world and my life but still I'm a rugged nigga
They say you buggin nigga, fuck it, I'm a thuggin nigga
You talkin bullshit then kick it with another nigga
I got a bigger bed and I need a cover nigga
And I ain't got friends - I got enemies
So if they with me, then that means they my brother niggaz
[Chorus: Pharoahe]
[Styles]
Is a blunt to the head, a prayer for the dead
Run around hustlin, scared of the feds
They said death is eternal sleep
but the only thing is you ain't really sure if you prepared for the bed
So often we get merked in the head, instead of big money
They got big momma hurtin instead
My life is makin the verse - but the handcuffs
the bullpens, the jail cells is makin it worse
Tell mom I don't go to the church - tell Haq I dont' go to Mosque
I blow blunts, hold guns, and I'ma be right there when the soldiers'll march
I play the part, and my heart seem colder than March
But on the flipside of things, it's still warmer than June
I have talks with the Lord and he'll be callin me soon, what
And my life is all I have - my family, my niggaz, my flow, my grabs what
[Chorus: Pharoahe] - 2X
My life...

Sir Tizzy - "The Wackness"
When I first was asked to check out Sir Tizzy's mixtape, I was interested because he had a good freestyle session at our first ABLT show. People loved that this seemingly nerdy guy, spoke with such confidence, and actually had some flow. I often see him on Morgan State University campus freestyling in various cyphers. One thing is evident, he really loves his craft. I must admit I was taken back by the title of the mixtape "The Wackness".But the mixtape is actually filled with things of the opposite. The selection of beats were really great, and when I got to stand-out joints on the mix like "The Entrance" , and "Life's Directory" ,and "Let Me In" he made me nod my head. He even takes the chance to re-hash one of my favorites by Queen Latifah " Just Another Day". Some of the beats were actually done by Iron of the Tempo-tantrum (Owner of Status Apparatus Clothing). Check out this kid, and Open your heart and mind on:

Remember This Jam: Changing Faces feat. Jay-z and R. kelly - All of my days
Changing Faces was an R&B group who was popular in the mid 1990s. They were on the now defunct label Big Beat Records( Atlantic Records Subsidiary). Changing Faces' first two singles "Stroke You Up" and "Foolin' Around" were written and produced by R.Kelly. The two singles reached the R&B Top Ten in late 1994, with "Stroke You Up" peaking at number three on the pop charts as well. Changing Faces debut was released in 1995 and went gold on the strength of the two hits. I'm not sure why their name isn't as popular or strong as SWV or Brownstone but they still have some classics!

Stephanie Rawlings Blake Becomes Mayor of Baltimore
Baltimore City Council President Stephanie C. Rawlings-Blake takes over as mayor on Feb. 4. She inherits this position because of the resignation of Mayor Sheila Dixon as a result of a plea agreement related to charges of embezzlement and perjury. When she becomes the mayor, she inherits a series of issues as Obama did, or any president would. 200 people die in Baltimore every year due to murders. In addition to Baltimore’s yearly problems of crime and poverty, she will immediately have to handle a budget deficit, escalatiing costs of the city police and fire pension system, a General Assembly session and the fall of the plan for a Baltimore slots parlor. Mrs. Rawlings Blake hasn't had any involvement with scandals, giving her a clear background. Hopefully She can restore hope in Baltimore city!
She adressed the public today as seen on WJZ Chanel 13 news. She declared "Demand the best of your public officials, you deserve it". I'm related to Stefanie Rawlings Blake, she is my cousin, and a very sweet person. I can only hope, and pray that she does her best. She's got the city on her back now!- Ryan L.
PS: How do you guys feel about the Mayor's resignation, and Stephanie's future position?
